Do you need to track information such as background checks, emergency contacts, or training dates for your volunteers? You can do so using custom fields!
Creating Custom Fields
- Go to the Custom Fields pane and click the "New custom field" button in the upper right.
- Give your custom field a label, such as "Training Date", and select the type of field it will be, such as "Date":
- Click "OK" to create your custom field.
The types of custom fields are:
Text – free-form input, good for comments, emergency contact names, etc.
Date – ideal for training dates or certification expiration dates
Number – for numeric values
Dropdown (single-select) – restrict to one option from a list
Dropdown (multi-select) – allow multiple options to be selected
Checkbox – simple yes/no flags
File upload – attach documents like training certificates
Entering Custom Field Values for Volunteers
- Go to the All volunteers pane, select a volunteer, and choose to Edit that volunteer's profile.
- In the Edit Volunteer dialog, you can enter or edit a value for the custom field for this volunteer:
Editing Custom Fields
If you need to rename a custom field, you can do so from the Custom Fields pane by clicking on the "Edit" button next to the field you want to edit. Note that you can only edit the label for your custom field; you cannot change the type of custom field as this would cause issues with values that have already been entered for your volunteers.
Importing Custom Fields
When you are importing volunteers, you can also import custom field values for each volunteer. (Note: "File" type custom fields cannot be imported in this way, but all other types can.)
Generating Reports on Custom Fields
Using the Reports pane, you can also generate reports that with your custom fields to easily get an overview of all of your volunteers.
